Perhaps it is a consequence of a busy life, but it is amazing how a very small thing can disrupt one's daily routine...
A couple of days ago, having done a full day's work, I prepared to leave the office around 5.50pm, and discovered to my chagrin that I could not find my car keys. I scrabbled around in the pockets and in the bottom of my handbag for a few minutes, before plaintively asking the two colleagues who sit adjacent to me if they had seen any keys lying around.
The answer was no, and they both helped me to look again on the desk, shifted furniture, re-arranged papers and generally did what they could to help.
But no keys.
After a short period, another colleague said she was sure that she had seen my keys when we had been at a cafe for lunch earlier in the day..., and had wondered why I had my car keys out when we had walked to the cafe...
A phone call to the cafe proved fruitless, as they were already shut, so one of my colleagues who lives in the same direction dropped my at home. G was home, but being not unaccustomed to similar behaviour in the past, was quite laid back about it all. As he had a day off next day, he took me to work, via the cafe, and on enquiry I had the keys in my hot little hand, with no harm done.
In retrospect, previous such incidents have been few and far between, and provide an opportunity for a bit of a chuckle with my colleagues and yet another sign for me that the quest for perfection is far from achievable!
As a result, I have made a resolution to always put the keys in a safe place...but we shall see...
